INGALL SEEKING MORE TASSIE SUCCESS THIS WEEKEND

Supercheap Auto Racing’s Russell Ingall knows what it takes to succeed around Tasmania’s Symmons Plains circuit and he is aiming to put this knowledge to good use in this weekend’s round of the V8 Supercar Championship at the venue.

Fresh from achieving his second podium result of 2008 in Bahrain, Ingall has again got his eyes firmly fixed on the podium as he looks to cement himself further inside the top ten of the points standings.

“Since I joined the Supercheap Auto Racing team the start of the year we have all been pushing hard to become a serious top five contender and I genuinely believe we are now there,” said Ingall, who won the corresponding round in Tasmania during 2004.

“When I finished on the podium at Queensland Raceway in July I felt as though it gave everyone in the team a real boost and now our second podium of the year has given everyone another huge lift.

“Symmons Plains is a track that I think where we will again be strong with a good braking package and engine power, two things we seem to have got a good handle on, being vital to a successful weekend.

“There are a few drivers out there chasing a championship, so they might be a little bit conservative as they’ve got a lot to lose, whereas I’m out there to finish on a high and chase a round win.”

Entering this weekend’s penultimate round of the 14-round championship Ingall is ninth in the points standings. Jamie Whincup is the championship leader ahead of Mark Winterbottom and Garth Tander.

Practice will begin tomorrow (Friday) afternoon followed by qualifying on Saturday morning and the opening 50-lap race in the afternoon. The round will be highlighted by a further two 50-lap encounters on Sunday.
